A Conference where Art, Culture & Ideas inspired by Disability meet
Outside In offers an opportunity for the arts and disability sectors to come together to explore, debate, discuss and connect ideas of practice as well as providing showcase opportunities for artists with disabilities. The overall theme of the conference will centre on access within contemporary arts practice, with cultural equality and innovation at its heart. Outside In aims to extend the discussion of critical issues around equitable access and engagement, artistic practice and methodologies’, as well as to encourage and incite attitudinal change in an Irish context. Over the course of 2 days they will present a number of keynote addresses, seminars, workshops and panel discussions which will respond to 3 core areas of investigation:
Access & Participation – Investigating barriers to the arts by people with disabilities as audience members and participants. The conference will include a combination of presentations and ‘How-To’ session covering areas such as equality legislation, access auditing and services for arts venues, accessible design and marketing, audience development, as well as case study presentations by Irish and international arts organisations.
Arts Practice – A close-up look at models of contemporary artistic practice amongst artists with disabilities, nationally and internationally. The conference will explore the tensions around creating exemplary artistic work and to what extent current practice within the Deaf and disability arts sector provides professional pathways for independent artists and collaborative practice.
Strategic Development – An exploration of ideas, issues and strategies at a broader policy level to improve coordination and collaboration amongst the arts and disability sectors.
