Cult Film takes to the Stage
“Jesus, I must be crazy to be in a loony-bin like this...”
Jack Nicholson’s R. P. McMurphy is one of the most famous film characters ever created. From the moment that he mistakenly commits himself to the asylum in the belief that he can avoid prison time, we are caught up in his doomed battle against the dictatorial regime of Nurse Ratched.
‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ is a disturbing yet comic play where we see McMurphy rouse his fellow patients to rebel against the rules and regulations that govern their lives and suppress their spirits. His efforts to bring a glimpse of freedom to the mental and physical imprisonment of the inmates touch a chord within all of us as we all identify with the only weapon he has – his humanity.
