'Day is Curious – outer reaches' presents a new series of work by Stano which is inspired by the natural landscapes and traditional cultures of Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The reverence and attachment held by Aboriginal and Maori people to their land offers many similarities and parallels to that of Irish people. In interpreting these, Stano has developed a special technique to express this subject matter where the imagery used represents the landscape from above. The physical topography is demonstrated by a series of interlaced grids which attempt to give visual form to the invisible ‘song lines’ that are so intrinsic to Aboriginal culture and so visible in Irish landscapes such as the Burren terrain. Stano’s technique also uses the intricate detail of fern plants found in abundance in New Zealand to further represent background and scale. Stano’s work is described as abstract and intense. It can be found in private, corporate and public collections throughout Ireland and abroad, including recent additions to the collections of the National Treasury Management Agency and Mason Hayes+Curran. Stano lives and works in Dublin.
