Rap / Spoken Word / Music project
axis Ballymun is delighted to announce the Celebration events for INVENT the groundbreaking Rap / Spoken Word / songwriting project which has been engaging over 80 young people across schools and youth groups in Ballymun since January and will culminate on May 16th. This ground breaking project funded through a Pobal / Dormant Accounts Suicide Prevention Measure has worked with young people from Trinity Comprehensive, Ballymun Regional Youth Resource, Ballymun Youthreach, and Plough Youth Club. Using the medium of rap / spoken word / songwriting, artists Dean Scurry and Colm Quearney along with co-ordinator Emma Connors have worked with the groups developing a sense of the creativity of one’s own voice, of sharing and developing that with your peers, of creating and producing a finished product together, and deciding how to present that to a wider audience. This has seen the development of songs, spoken word poems exploring a wide range of themes but each being real!! The format of the workshops have involved each participant at the level of discussion, writing, development of musical backing tracks, recording. The project is being externally evaluated and has been developed in conjunction with the HSE and MZone Liverpoool Youth Music Zone. Invent will culminate on May 15th and 16th where invited guests and the groups themselves get to share the spoken word, songs and stories that they have created through a multi media exhibition and showcase.
