Slovak Festival Ensemble

Vladimir Jablokov is the conductor, founder and solo player of The Slovak Festival Ensemble. Their style is unusual in that they perform classical music in a way that appeals to all ages and can be appreciated by all audiences nationwide.




Grow Your Own

Grow Your Own is a gentle sweet-smelling comedy that is blessed with plenty of British charm. Set on an allotment in the North of England, a bunch of grumpy old men spend their days nurturing their beloved allotments, while passing comment on their neighbours vegetables.




Bealtaine

Taking its name from the ancient Celtic festival celebrating springtime, Bealtaine celebrates renewal, creativity and growth in ageing. axis is delighted to work in partnership with Dublin City Council Arts Office to host a range of free activities and events to celebrate Bealtaine.




The Submarine Man 

8th May 2008 to 9th May 2008

Captivated by the allure of the sea, man has always been intrigued by underwater exploration and the mysteries of the deep. The year is 1873. Dundalk-based, noviciate Christian Brother, John Philip Holland is obsessed with his design for a bizarre, submergible craft.  He soon finds himself caught up in the frantic, international race to tame 'the Mistress of the Sea'.
Infused with the inventiveness of the eccentric genius, this true-story drama tells the little-known tale of 'the father of the modern submarine' and one of Ireland's greatest, unsung naval heroes.




House of Fun Comedy Club 

6th May 2008

Ballymun’s own monthly comedy club, ‘House of Fun’, brings you the cream of the Irish comedy circuit and local new talent. Previous acts that have headled at the comedy club have been well-known acts such as Tommy Tiernan, Des Bishop, Jason Byrne and Ardal O’Hanlon, so 2008 promises to bring you more top-class entertainment




Changing the Story 

1st May 2008

Join us for an afternoon of reflection and radical optimism with local residents and artists living and working in Ballymun.

The event will be followed by a reception. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.




Smycz 

23rd April 2008 to 26th April 2008

‘Smycz’ was a huge hit at axis last year, so we are delighted to have them back with this amazing show. Featuring live music and a strong original score, this brilliantly staged performance sees its quirky and wayward characters strive to break away from the leashes that restrain them.




Walking the Road 

27th March 2008 to 5th April 2008
Lance Corporal Francis Ledwidge lost his life in Flanders Fields, 1917 while serving with the British Army in WWI. One of Ireland's finest poets, Ledwidge left the familiarity of his Co. Meath home and loved ones and joined the British Army "at seven shillings a week, a shilling more than London magazines paid for a line of poetry".
