"Christie Hennessy, folks! How about that! Big hand now! Two big hands! Wasn't that something? And you ain't heard nothing yet..."

When Christie Hennessy passed away in 2007, Ireland lost one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. A unique performer whose songs have been recorded by artists such as Christie Moore and Frances Black, he had for some time, been planning a special new performance telling the story of his life and work to premiére at axis. Sadly this was not to be, but axis' director Ray Yeates, writer Seán McCarthy and well-known RTÉ presenter and broadcaster Aonghus McAnally have continued to work together to produce this new musical-theatre piece about Christie's life.

Christie Hennessy was inspired by Al Jolson from his childhood in Tralee to his tours of folk clubs in England in the 1970's. Now Jolson returns the compliment, comparing the love and affection that Hennessy inspired to the blockbusting recognition and fame he himself achieved as the greatest entertainer of his era. Was it worth it? What is the price of success and fame? Here from their new perspective both men give their different views on music, family and their two very different legacies.

Featuring a live band and many of Christie Hennessy's greatest hits, 'When Jolie Met Christie' will be performed by broadcaster and entertainer Aonghus McAnally.
