Well there you have it. Four years of this wonderful project done and dusted. 2,000 young people, nearly 30 artists, 96 teachers all working together to celebrate arts in the classroom. Thanks to everyone who was involved and here's to many more arts in education projects

Spark 2010 is well into preparation. The schools have all nominated what classes are taking part. 24 classes across 7 schools. Over 500 pupils will be working with artists in artforms from hip hop dancing to ceramics, mosaic to african drumming. axis theatre is booked for the celebrations in February. Let the timetabling begin. 

 

22nd April 2009

Tomorrow we will be meeting all the artists who facilitated the work on Spark to look at how it impacts on their own practice, how axis can develop better our work in this area and to look at future methods and practice around arts in education.

 

12th February 2009

What a couple of days. 600 young people, artists, teachers, principals, and assorted TV crews all came to axis to celebrate Spark. Performances included Hip Hop Dancing, Drama, African Drumming, Mosaic, Painting, Photography, Mask Making and Ballet. Pictures of this wonderful event and videos of the project will be posted soon

What a lot of Creativity. Belinda Murphy had St. Josephs dancing today. Lots of Hip Hop Dancing! While Emma Connors did the same in Our lady of Victories. Meanwhile Orla Kelly and Pat McGrath working away in the afternoon in Gaelscoil Ballymun and Our Lady of Victories.

It's on! Julie Rose McCormack is giving a Puppetmaking as I write with Pat McGrath and Sculpture to follow elsewhere this afternoon. Yellow t-shirts are being unfurled and timetables are being checked.

 

11th December 2008

Well all the art forms have been chosen, the classes picked, and the artists are on board. This year is shaping up to be the most exciting yet with Hip Hop Dancing, Photography, Drama, Puppetmaking, Ballet, Painting, Mosaic, Ethnic Drumming, and Mask Making arriving in 24 classes in 6 Ballymun National schools from the week of January 5th. Over 550 young people are about to get creative.

Busy week next week getting all the materials and the famous yellow t-shirts sorted
