Frankfurter Tor (Works from Berlin) By Chanelle Walshe

1st November 2010 to 30th November 2010

‘Frankfurter Tor’ - My day begins and ends here. The tiled walls of ‘Frankfurter Tor’ U-bahn station are creepy and old, stained with everything from blood to paint to urine and just plain oldness. When I walk under my old stasi building I get a blast of the past. It’s etched onto the tiled walls and I feel like I’m in a giant swimming pool with no water in it.

Drawing on site and taking photographs and then returning to ‘Frankfurter Tor’ with pieces of a puzzle everyday is a practice that is relatively new to me. This is the first time I have worked without a studio space. Berlin is my studio.

This exciting new exhibition being developed by Chanelle Walshe will get its world premiére in axis, follow it online on Facebook just search for ‘Frankfurter Tor’ to find the page.

Dreams by Maria Place

1st December 2010 to 30th January 2011
‘Dreams’ in the conscious environment: A Dream Out of Place or a Place Out of Dreams?

The exhibition aims to bring an awareness of our dreaming mind into the everyday, accessible, conscious environment by installing a selection of dream-inspired art pieces into the halls, recesses, offices, class rooms (or vacant rooms), floors, doors and ceilings within a building, so that people come upon them, rather than come to view them, as they would in a traditional Gallery.

The intention of the installation is to bring the dreams – belonging to our unconscious - to reside in 2 or 3-dimensional constructs, which in turn resides within the dimensions of the conscious world for just a little while.
