Singing from the other side...

It's funny, I've never been one to dislike Mondays, lucky girl that I am, but I literally skipped home from work this evening having taken part in my first session of 'Sing' an 8-week project in axis where ordinary joe soaps like me get to learn and sing alongside the National Chamber Choir.

I've been working in axis since February 2006 and this is the first time I've ever signed up for one of our projects as a participant. Having seen the 'Sing' project light up the building for the past two years, and having heard everyone involved raving about the experience, I decided that I could no longer resist and that I'd give it a go this year. There are LOADS of us taking part - about 40 people filed into axis' conference centre for our first session yesterday evening.

As anticpated, there was plenty la-la-la-la-la-la-la-ing as vocal warm-ups I think Alan Leech, our workshop facilitator, just wanted to check if we could hold a tune, and I learned a lot within the space of the first hour about posture and breathing (mine is terrible, in case you were wondering). We also learned our first three songs and by the end of the evening I was singing (ok...opening my mouth and making noises) in English, Irish and Latin!

I've forgotten the the words to most of what we covered (I remember the 'la-la-la's...', poor Ray and Mark (or...everyone in the office) will be tormented listening to me go over that making sure I use my girdle muscles -I know, I didn't know I had them either) correctly, but I'm already looking forward to next week.
