132123That was magnificent. A great festival. Highlights in no particular order. The beautiful backdrop from Maeve Clancy and the Paper Art Project participants, The Music Club Gig, Sounds from the Rap workshop, the improvised jam with the Drum Clinic, Colm Quearney, Ron Cooney and the fact that we are now going to work with aspiring visual artists in local secondary school and youthreach's to develop their skills.

We will upload photos from the festival over next couple of weeks.

Another day another launch. This time in the Ballymun Library who are hosting an exhibition of Photography from Trinity Comprehensive for the Festival. This exhibition entitled 'Beyond Endurance' traces Teacher Anne Murray and student Dylan Sheridan's expedition to Antartica. Full details are in the lift programme and photographs will follow.

We are also making a documentary on the festival which we will post up in April.

Launch Night

A great crowd gathered in axis this evening to launch the festival. Here are some images taken by Suzan O'Toole of the Poppintree Youth Project exhibition. The festival was officially launched by Brian Mongey, chair of Ballymun Festival Steering Committee and Daire Ni Bhroin.

The ink has just dried on the paper. The programme has arrived. Packed to the brim of workshops, exhibitions, gigs and films. Got a sneak preview last night in the Reco of some of the bands for the BRYR Music Club Gig at axis on Tuesday 7th April. Amazing stuff.

3Urban Art 1

Can't believe I'm writing this as the Leap Forward Dance commission which began in Lift last year just finished on Oct 31st (see picture), but we as part of the Ballymun Festival Steering Committee are starting to plan for the fourth annual youth arts festival. This year Lift will take place from April 1st - 8th and you'ld be a fool to miss it. Get it. April 1st? Fool? Oh never mind.

Anyway this year there will be even more on offer around Ballymun for young people who are interested in the arts and we are interested in hearing from youth groups and clubs who are interested in showcasing their work or trying out new things

If your group are between the ages of 12 –21 and are interested in or are already involved in arts practice e.g. dance (hip hop/contemporary/ballet), Art (painting/urban/sculpture), Drama, Writing, Music, DJ and multi Media, we would love to hear from you.

We will be developing the programme for the festival from January 2009 and would love to hear what you would like to do, see, look at or try. This could involve an artistic project, an exhibition, a showcase or performance or anything in between.

We will be in touch with all interested parties in mid January.

Ballymun Festival Steering Committee is made up of representation from Dublin City Council, Ballymun Regeneration Ltd, axis, BRYR, Youthreach and the wider youth sector
