Sentiments

1st January 2012 to 28th February 2011
Frances Carton is interested in the precious memories we hold and how the jewellery we wear and objects we keep tell a story about our past. Jewellery and objects are often associated with a precious moment in time from our life. The beauty of a memory, the story it tells makes the piece priceless to the owner. This series of acrylic intingslooks at precious objects/jewellery and links them with their precious memory through painting; exaggerating colour to enhance the mood of the piece and focusing oncomposition to communicate the memory... a physical expression of this life experience.

Coming Home ... A ten year retrospective

2nd November 2011 to 31st January 2012

Local artist John Duffy presents a ten year retrospective of his work and its developing themes related to personal loss. A comprehensive exhibition charting the various related themes, styles, items of obsession and overall journey that the last ten years have taken him on as an artist. The work ranges from the pain depicted images of the ‘The Guardians’ to the contemplative magpies of ‘One for Sorrow, Two for Joy’. The emotional interiors and the up beat colourful abstraction of ‘Coming Down in Colour’ will present the viewer with an insight into an ongoing process of recovery and emotional regeneration of an artist over a ten year period. Duffy hopes to allow himself and the viewer to reflect on how the power of art and creativity can affect the individual and support us all in times of turmoil and of peace.

‘Dreams’ in the conscious environment: A Dream Out of Place or a Place Out of Dreams?

The exhibition aims to bring an awareness of our dreaming mind into the everyday, accessible, conscious environment by installing a selection of dream-inspired art pieces into the halls, recesses, offices, class rooms (or vacant rooms), floors, doors and ceilings within a building, so that people come upon them, rather than come to view them, as they would in a traditional Gallery.

The intention of the installation is to bring the dreams – belonging to our unconscious - to reside in 2 or 3-dimensional constructs, which in turn resides within the dimensions of the conscious world for just a little while.
