Breaking Ground & Ballymun, 2001 - 2009 

23rd October 2009 to 1st January 2010
Breaking Ground presents its final exhibition at axis, displaying highlights from 8 years of the ‘per cent for art’ scheme programme. From the illumination of the Boilerhouse in 2001 by Andrew Kearney, to a major school photographic project by Perry Ogden, to the conversion of a tower block as a hotel by Seamus Nolan, this exhibition presents documentary photographs, maquettes and a timeline showing the history of the project.



Seeing Things 

9th September 2009 to 2nd October 2009
Established local artists Elke Thonnes and Cecilia Moore present their new work from the bizarre to the beautiful. ‘Seeing Things’ reveals an eclectic mix of print, paintings, and sculpture.
 



Learning from Art 

6th July 2009 to 14th August 2009
Learning From Art includes the work of primary and post primary students from all 32 counties, carried out between 1999-2003. The young people, aged 5-18 years, responded to a work in the Gallery’s collection in the form of an artwork, a poem or a piece of prose. This is the perfect opportunity for all the family to enjoy this exhibition and we encourage all, young and old, to attend.



An exhibition by John Byrne 

8th June 2009 to 26th June 2009
Breaking Ground presents an exhibition of a major new work in progress by artist John Byrne. John Byrne has been working for over 2 years on a spectacular large bronze equestrian sculpture for Ballymun, that will be launched in the heart of Ballymun in September 2009. The exhibition will feature documentation of the work at various stages of production, from casting and the rider auditions, to the patination and transportation to storage in Dublin City.



Bealtaine Exhibition 

5th May 2009 to 30th May 2009
Bealtaine celebrating creativity in older age. A group show of work from artists aged 55+. This work has been chosen and curated by an invited panel of professional artists and curators and displays the wealth of talent and invention existing in art
groups and individuals over 55 years of age studying various visual art forms in our community.



LiFT Ballymun Youth Arts Festival 

7th April 2009 to 25th April 2009
This exhibition will take place as part of ‘LiFT Ballymun Youth Arts Festival’ 2009, showcasing the work of the young people who took part. For more information contact axis on (01) 883 2100.



Day is Curious - outer reaches by Stano 

5th March 2009 to 31st March 2009
'Day is Curious – outer reaches' presents a new series of work by Stano which is inspired by the natural landscapes and traditional cultures of Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The reverence and attachment held by Aboriginal and Maori people to their land offers many similarities and parallels to that of Irish people. In interpreting these, Stano has developed a special technique to express this subject matter where the imagery used represents the landscape from above.



Spark 

11th February 2009 to 27th February 2009
This exhibition will take place as part of ‘Spark’ 2009, showcasing the work of the young people who took part. For more information contact axis on (01) 883 2100.
 
‘Spark’ Celebration is a showcase of events marking the culmination of this year’s ‘Spark’ project a three-year, six week arts-ineducation programme for primary schools running across Ireland and the UK.



Observations, Meditations and Vibrations 

27th November 2008 to 23rd January 2009
A Collaboration reflecting on the changing Irish Spiritual Landscape, John Duffy (visual artist), BoB Dixon (photography) and Colm Quearney (musician) through the media of music, photographer, poetry, painting and film installation have come together to explore and express feelings and emotions associated with their own commonalities.



Dark Horses 

30th October 2008 to 21st November 2008
Artist Eilis Murphy presents an educational project made in response to the forthcoming major equine sculptural project by John Byrne. Eilis Murphy led a series of workshops in August 2008 with a group of local teenage girls, working on sculpture and plaster casts, drawings and photographs, prints and video. The exhibition features work made by the teenagers over the course of the workshops inspired by Byrne’s work.



Joyce Duffy, Michael McLoughlin & Felicity Williams 

30th October 2008 to 21st November 2008
Breaking Ground, the Ballymun Regeneration Ltd per cent for art scheme, showcases recent projects by artists Joyce Duffy, Michael McLoughlin, and Felicity Williams. The artists were commissioned under the second phase of Breaking Ground’s scheme announced in 2005, and here display work including drawing, video, publications and audio.



Borradh Buan - Íomhéanna ón Imeall 

2nd October 2008 to 24th October 2008
Taispeántas griangraifeanna ar ghlac an ealaíontóir thar breis is cúig bliana déag agus é ag taisteal ar fud an domhain. Réimse leathan íomheánna idir turtair ollmhóra sa Chairib, campaí teifigh sa Phailistín, na túranna i mBaile Munna, asail beaga i Loch Gorman agus Mannaigh Búdaíoch sa Tibéid. ‘Íomhánna ón Imeall’ or ‘Images from the Edge’ by Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin will feature a broad range of photos (with bilingual captions and background descriptions) from ‘off the beaten track’ over the past fifteen years. All proceeeds from sales go to a children’s charity in Gaza, Palestine. Fáilte roimh grúpaí scoile (ardranganna), Billeoga oibre ar fáil. School groups welcome – worksheets provided.
